Fandom is just determined to annoy me this week.

It is entirely possible to respect a person's right to their opinion and not respect a particular opinion. It's also possible to disagree with another person's opinion and still respect the person.

It is nearly impossible to respect a person whose opinion includes the view that anyone who disagrees with their opinion deserves no respect, and furthermore, because their views differ, are morally bankrupt, ethically void, and possibly the root of all evil.

And seriously? People who write (or read) incest are no more likely to be advocating for it in real life than people who write (or read) h/c kidfic are advocating for child abuse.

I don’t read RPF/S. I don’t read John/either boy (especially underage). I don’t read slash where there is a tremendous imbalance of power and no permission given. There is an awful lot of RPS in this fandom, and yet, I somehow manage to avoid it. I read the descriptions and if it’s not my cuppa, I move on. I don’t rail that this stuff exists. I don’t make value judgements about the people who write it. I have good friends who write it. I know where they stand. They know where I stand. We respect each other’s opinion. Which is what this person wasn’t willing to do. Any comments that didn’t support her, she deleted before she disable comments all together. She started her whole tirade with suggesting that people who read and write slash or RPS think it’s good and should happen. She made a tremendous value judgement right out of the gate. My opinion of her opinion didn’t improve as I read.

She was, as you noted, being a twit about it.
