We have so little to go on with Sarah's father, but I take it as given that he loves his daughter, that he loved his wife, that the loss of her was difficult for both he and Sarah.
As far as what both father's are will to do for their children. I don't think John and Daniel are that far apart -- and Daniel's profession requires that he be able to assess people as much as artwork and collectibles.
Both of them have the distance thing going -- but both of them also tryy to compensate where and when they can.
