It's a precaution against wildlife advocates, of all things. One run in with people wanting to "relocate" Sam was all it took.
A detail like this makes me SO happy. I can just imagine Dean's response to any of that.
And omg Maygra, Dean being bent about the collar and leash and leaving Sam messages about it. "You're enjoying this, aren't you. You get me something with spikes on it, at least, spikes and leather, or nothing at all, Sam. We'll see how you like wearing a hood, bird-brain."
Dean, reminding Sam that he'll always come back.
Sam roughhousing with wolf-Dean is going to stay with me a long, long time. That's...Dean charging him from the bushes and knocking/helping him fall off the log, and then them just PLAYING. ::dies::
