You know, there's something seriously wrong with people whose moral high ground consists of burying other people.
...
Edit: There's a better metaphor/analogy out there for this -- make it a contest.

Date: 2007-06-07 12:59 am (UTC)isn't postable for an entire fandom? Really? Wow. I have trouble
just deciding what to eat for supper sometimes. (Uh, didn't we just
do this a while back? Or something like this? Kinda like this maybe?)
Bah. I haven't needed any help figuring out
what's best since my Grandma and Mama said "Honey, reading is
good for you, go for it" and handed me a Jennifer Wilde book.
(Oh. My. God. My eyes almost fell out.)I mean rape, incest, weird
lovemaking, being sold into slavery...I'm pretty sure if you can
name it, that book had it. (Do you think maybe people were less
fussy back in 1976?)
Anyhow, long/short, people are weird. And controlling. And
mostly they like controlling and being authoritative and my kid
just read a cool book about that and did a paper on it. And this just
proves that being anal retentive stretches to all reaches of life and not
just politics. :-)

Date: 2007-06-07 10:17 am (UTC)You missed nothing. I only get to catch up with LJ at the end of the day, ego, I tend to take in a lot of scattered things all at once and since by then I'm too tired to get into it en masses I'm reduced to kibbitzing from the sidelines.

and we all know how much I hate that.

Date: 2007-06-07 06:19 pm (UTC)Generally speaking, there are always a group of people who think, for whatever reason, they are in some position to make decisions for everyone else. Like the parents who throw hissy fits about "inappropriate" programing during "family hour". Yes, well, if you don't want your kids to see it, don't let them see it. This is called being a parent. This is why the V chip was invented.
But even then, it's not enough to have the means. They just want to ban it all together. Because somehow the world is safe if something they personally find distasteful is kept from everyone. These people certainly aren't limited to fandom, but it's especially disheartening when they are fans. Because fandom is all about accepting the unacceptable.

Date: 2007-06-07 11:16 pm (UTC)But yes, your second para actually hits the crux of the matter.
Last time I checked -- morality was standards we're meant to hold ourselves to. Ethics is morality by committee, and trying to get people to stop doing something you don't approve of when what you're doing harms no one was called...
...harrassment.
