You can also ask anonymous questions in the comments if you prefer. They'll be screened until I respond, but they will be anonymous.
1. Lots of religious/mystic imagery in your fics. Your background in this area? (not nec. religious affiliation)
I don't have a lot of formal background beyond personal experience. For a very brief time I was a religion major in college and on and off over the years I've thought about returning to school to either study religion or go to seminary. That said, I have a lifelong fascination with religion/faith/myth and maybe even more to the point, the structures of those areas as part and parcel of whatever drives people toward either ideology or ritual.
I'm a reader of a good many esoteric texts, as opposed to formal treatises on organized religion. I'm more interested in Meister Eckert than Thomas Aquinas, have read many of the non-religious but still ritualistic volumes on groups like the Golden Dawn and the Mason, as well as the Golden Bough and the White Goddess. I'm a fan of world myths and legends, bel they religious or non, and the way they overlap across cultures.
But I'm neither expert nor scholar, mostly a dabbling bystander.
2. If we asked you up for Epicuricon 2008 (and it was financially possible) would you come?
I might, but I have no idea what it is or where or when, but I'm always up for seeing friends if I can swing it.
3. What brought you to each of your fandoms?
That's a really tough one, because on the surface none of my fandoms really have that much in common. But the one thing that does remain constant is one character that intrigues me, and a complimentary partner character. I first started writing Highlander offline because of Richie, but lost interest after the first or second season, not writing and watching only intermittently. But then Methos came along and Methos and Duncan really worked for me. In TPM it was Obi-Wan first and foremost, in Smallville it was Clark, in Mag 7 it was Vin and in TFATF it was Brian. IN SPN it was Sam. But it's not enough for me to like just one character. I need both -- and the same is true of my TV watching. There's rarely a show I remain interested that has only one main lead. I'm very much a partner fan, however that plays out.
4. Where has the amazing Immortal Nights gone to?
Awe, man. Thank you. It's down for a couple of reasons. 1) We had a space allocation issue a few months back and I needed to make some room. Immortal Nations get almost no traffic at all and it seemed like a good candidate to clear because it taking up huge amount of space for what was basically text, and 2.) There's about 2 final chapters left to edit before they can be posted -- and I've been procrastinating editing them for going on 3 years now -- so until I get the jones to edit the sucker again, it's staying down. I'd offer to send it to people but the problem is that the finished edited chapters only exist in html, not in doc or txt format, and I honestly haven't had the time or energy to convert them back into a single file that I could just give to folks who like it.
But I've gotten several inquiries about it this year since it came down, so I may need to rethink it, since I have space elsewhere that I could host it.
5. You are really erratic in replying to comments. Why?
*facepalm* I know. I'm either really good about it or abysmally bad, and this year has been even worst. Part of it is I don't have as much time online as I used to. I have (officially) no access to LJ during the day, although I've snuck a response in here and there, and this year especially, most of what time I do have, that I'm not trying to write in, is given over to the comms I mod and this month to mini_nano. I love doing them and being part of fandom that way but they are enormous time-sucks.
But I love comments, and I know some people really, really find replying to them important, to which I can only say, that if you're going to be disappointed when I don't respond, please don't feel like you have to comment. I do read them all and love them and SAVE them like a squirrel saves nuts, and I don't like disappointing people but in this, I don't see the trend shifting anytime soon.
Although I am playing the lottery again...

Date: 2007-11-25 01:02 am (UTC)So, consider this another vote for finishing it & putting it back up! :-)
Oh, and I knew you were a good place to start with Highlander fic because I always enjoyed your TPM fic --I am/was Gail Riordan on Master/Apprentice, not that I expect you to remember me!
I was very happy when I discovered that you had an LJ.
